What does a fitness app cost to build in 2026, from a booking app to a trainer marketplace?

Updated · our quoted ranges, at ₹95 = $1, ₹127 = £1 and ₹25.9 = AED 1 on 3 November 2026

Quick answer

A fitness app costs ₹5–10 lakh ($5,500–10,500) for an MVP with client and trainer roles, packages, payments and an admin panel, and ₹10–20 lakh ($10,500–21,000) for a full trainer marketplace like Trainr with programs, check-ins, chat, payouts and a ledger. These are our quoted ranges, the same wherever you are, and your fixed price comes out of a two-week Discovery Sprint.

How much does a fitness app cost, from MVP to trainer marketplace?

A fitness app earns its keep between sessions, not at the booking screen. The low end books and charges for what you sell; the high end runs the coaching itself, with programs trainers write once and assign many times, logs, check-ins and chat, plus the money that pays independent trainers correctly.

  1. MVP

    ₹5–10 lakh

    $5,500–10,500

Client and trainer roles, packages, payments and an admin panel.

The MVP covers one gym, studio or coaching business: sign-up and goals, booking and payment for your main product (sessions, packages, classes or a course batch), programs and today's plan, workout logging, a trainer view and an admin panel for refunds, with push notifications from day one.

    UK, for reference
    £4,000–8,000
    UAE, for reference
    AED 19,500–38,500
  2. Full trainer marketplace

    ₹10–20 lakh

    $10,500–21,000

Adds programs, check-ins, chat, payouts and a ledger.

The full trainer marketplace is the Trainr shape: independent trainers selling services, packages and classes to clients they find by distance, cycling workout programs and diet plans, scheduled check-ins with photos, one-to-one and group chat, a ledger that balances every sale and refund, and payouts an operator approves.

    UK, for reference
    £8,000–15,500
    UAE, for reference
    AED 38,500–77,000

Our quoted ranges for builds of this size, not a client's fee. Dollars, pounds and dirhams are the rupee range at ₹95 = $1, ₹127 = £1 and ₹25.9 = AED 1 on 3 November 2026, rounded to the nearest 500: the price is the same wherever you are. Clients in India are quoted and invoiced in rupees and everyone else in US dollars, so the pound and dirham figures are for reference. Every app type is compared in the App Development Cost Index 2026, and the build itself is described on Fitness App Development.

What makes one fitness app cost twice another?

Most of the spread in a fitness quote comes from four questions: who sells, what members follow, how people talk and what proof the business has to issue. Each line below is from Trainr or Proton, tagged with where it usually lands.

Features

  • Workout programsMVP

A simple plan is cheap. Trainr's programs are linear or cycling, with a cycle of 1 to 14 days up to 90 days, each client on their own start date, and every set recording reps, weight, rest and effort against the trainer's targets.

  • Diet programs and a meal libraryFull platform

A second pillar with calories, protein, carbs and fats per meal, daily logs and the trainer's written adjustments. Worth it if your trainers coach nutrition.

  • Check-insFull platform

Trainr's check-in repeats daily, weekly or monthly, with up to 13 fields from body weight and sleep to photos, a due date per client and an overdue flag on the home screen.

  • Certificates people can verifyEither

Essential for an academy, unnecessary for a gym. Proton's certificates are created on enrolment, issued by an admin with attendance and a grade, and checked by number on a public page.

Integrations

  • Payments for each product typeMVP

Trainr takes cards through Stripe in dirhams; Proton takes Razorpay checkout and also lets an admin record a payment made by hand. Each product type brings its own refund maths.

  • Push notificationsMVP

Reminders and replies are how members come back, so they work from the first build on both platforms.

  • Calendar feedsFull platform

Proton's students subscribe to every session from their own calendar app.

  • Wearables and health appsLater

Each platform has its own permissions and data model. Add the one your members actually wear, after launch.

Roles

  • One business or a marketplace of trainersMVP

The biggest single lever. A marketplace adds trainer verification, commission, held earnings and payouts on top of everything a single gym needs.

  • Clients and trainers in one appMVP

Trainr serves both from one React Native app, which keeps one codebase and one store listing.

  • Students, trainers, admins, superadminEither

Proton has four kinds of user, each with its own portal; an academy needs the student and trainer portals from the start.

  • Group chat and trainer communitiesFull platform

Chat needs presence, delivery across devices and moderation. On Trainr, presence expires after five minutes without a heartbeat so nobody stays online by mistake.

Compliance

  • Health and body dataMVP

Weight, measurements, photos and sleep are sensitive. What is collected, who sees it and how it is deleted are decided in discovery.

  • Store rules for digital goodsMVP

Physical training sessions are paid through your own gateway; a digital-only subscription can fall under the stores' own billing. Decide before any payment code.

  • VAT or GST on packagesLater

When Trainr asked for UAE VAT, we listed the decisions first: tax-inclusive or exclusive prices, the 5% rate, and trainers above and below the registration threshold.

  • Refund and cancellation policyMVP

Packages, single classes and downgrades each refund differently, and the ledger has to reverse a trainer's pending earnings cleanly.

Fitness app MVP vs a full trainer marketplace

The MVP builds the daily loop that keeps a member opening the app. The full marketplace adds the people and the money around it. Many gyms and studios never need the full tier; most trainer marketplaces need it within a year.

What each tier includes, part by part. Ranges: MVP ₹5–10 lakh · Full trainer marketplace ₹10–20 lakh.
PartMVPFull trainer marketplace
What is soldYour main product: sessions, packages, classes or a course batchServices, packages with duration discounts and classes with capacity and a waitlist, together
ProgramsAssigned plans and today's workout, with loggingCycling programs, a rest timer, targets per set and the trainer's reply on each log
LibrariesYour own exercisesA starter catalogue (Trainr ships 250 exercises and 100 meals) that trainers clone and edit
CoachingNotes and notificationsCheck-ins with photos, diet programs, one-to-one and group chat

MoneyPayments and refunds in an admin panelCommission, earnings held until settlement, payouts approved by an operator
PlatformsAndroid and a web admin panelAndroid and iPhone from one codebase, plus a superadmin console

If you run the gym or employ the trainers, start with the MVP. If independent trainers will sell through you, price the full tier, because commission and payouts are not something to bolt on after the first trainer has been paid wrongly.

Monthly costs of a live fitness app

After launch a fitness app pays for payments, media and the servers behind chat. None of these is large at the start, but check-in photos and videos grow with every active member, so storage is planned, not discovered.

  • Card fees on packages and classesIn dirhams through Stripe for the UAE, or Razorpay in India; the rate depends on where the card was issuedPer payment
  • Photos and videos from check-insStored in object storage and served to the trainerGrows per member
  • Chat serversSockets with a shared cache so a message sent on one server reaches a client held by anotherServer time
  • Scheduled jobsRenewals, missed sessions, check-in due dates and ledger settlement run without anyone pressing a buttonServer time
  • Store developer accountsGoogle Play and Apple, in your company's nameYearly
  • Maintenance after launchCare ₹20,000 ($210) · Grow ₹45,000 ($470) · Partner ₹95,000 ($1,000), a monthfrom ₹20,000

Use the Stripe fee calculator or the Razorpay fee calculator for your own price points, the S3 storage cost calculator for media, and running costs for what we have measured on our own builds. Maintenance plans are priced on app maintenance plans.

How long a fitness app takes to build

Trainr is the long end: built between May 2025 and May 2026 into 199 screens and page routes and 978 endpoints, with release work and the handover running on to August 2026, 15 months in all. A focused MVP for one business is a different size of project, and the Discovery Sprint dates it.

  1. Weeks 1–2

    Discovery Sprint

A member's first week, a trainer's busiest day and an operator's month as a clickable prototype; products, refunds and payouts written down.

  2. Milestone 1

    The daily loop

Sign-up, booking and payment for your main product, programs and today's plan, workout logging and the trainer's view of it all.

  3. Milestone 2

    Retention and the back office

Check-ins, chat, reminders, the console, refunds and payouts, and attendance or certificates where you need them.

  4. Milestone 3

    Launch

Store listings and review, production servers and monitoring, then the first weeks of real members watched closely.

Trainr is the fitness marketplace; Temphera is our habit and routine app; LeafRanger is a React Native app with a backend and consoles of a similar size to a fitness MVP. Every row, with its start and end points, is on build timelines.

Paying for a fitness app build, step by step

Fitness builds are paid the same way as every build we do: a fixed fee for discovery, then a fixed price in milestones, each one a build you install and try as a member and as a trainer.

  1. Discovery Sprint: ₹1,50,000 ($1,600), 2 weeks

Scope, user flows, a clickable prototype, the architecture, a risk list and a fixed-price quote in milestones. Paid up front; the full fee is credited to the build if it starts within 60 days of the walkthrough.

  2. Price and milestones agreed

The fixed price, each milestone's contents and the checks it must pass, including the refund cases for every product type.

  3. Milestone 1: the daily loop

Paid when a test member can book, pay, follow today's plan and log a workout, and a trainer can see it.

  4. Milestone 2: retention and payouts

Paid when check-ins, chat and the console work, and refunds and payouts pass with test money, ideally after a pilot with real trainers.

  5. Milestone 3: launch

Paid on store release and go-live, accepted on the live app.

Clients in India pay in rupees; everyone else pays in US dollars, at the same price. A change during the build is priced before it is built. How milestone payments work in full is on pricing, and when a fixed price suits you is in fixed price vs time and materials.

Fitness products we built, and what they prove

Two fitness platforms we built for clients, one live in the UAE and one live in India, and one habit app of our own.

  • Live

    Trainr

A personal-training marketplace for the UAE, built for Watermelon Inc in Dubai: one React Native app for clients and trainers, Stripe payments and payouts, programs, diet plans, check-ins and chat, and a superadmin console. The Android app is live on Google Play; Trainr's team released the iPhone app after our handover.

    • 199 screens and page routes
    • 978 backend HTTP endpoints
    • 13 check-in fields
  • Live

    Proton Fitness Academy

protonfit.com and the platform behind it: certification courses in dated batches with attendance per session, student and trainer portals, verifiable certificates, Razorpay checkout and a home-page CMS.

    • 4 kinds of user
    • 8 home-page sections edited from the CMS
  • Built

    Temphera

Our own journal, habit and routine app, with forgiving streaks, morning and evening routines and an admin console that keeps staff out of what users write. Built, not released.

    • 86 screens in the mobile app

What a fitness app quote does not include

Not in the range

  • Writing the workouts, meal plans and course content: the app holds them, your trainers write them.
  • Video production and a video-on-demand library, which is a product of its own.
  • Payment gateway fees, storage and hosting, billed to your accounts.
  • Wearable integrations, priced when you know which device your members wear.
  • A marketing website, unless it is in the scope you agree.

What we could not confirm

  • We have no member retention or revenue figures for Trainr or Proton to publish, so this page quotes none.
  • Trainr's iPhone app was released by Trainr's own team after our handover; we have not verified its App Store listing ourselves.
  • The ranges are for builds of this size, not what either client paid.

Decide these before a fitness app quote

Write these down before the first call; they decide which tier you are in. The project brief generator puts them on one page.

  1. Do you employ the trainers, or will independent trainers sell through you?
  2. What you sell first: sessions, packages, classes, a course batch or a subscription.
  3. Whether members follow programs and log workouts, or only book.
  4. Whether trainers coach nutrition as well as training.
  5. Whether you issue certificates people need to verify.
  6. Which market first: India with UPI and cards, or the UAE with cards in dirhams.
  7. Android first, or both phones at launch.

Fitness app development cost: common questions

How much does a personal trainer marketplace app like Trainr cost?

Our quoted range for a full trainer marketplace with programs, check-ins, chat, payouts and a ledger is ₹10–20 lakh ($10,500–21,000). A fitness MVP with client and trainer roles, packages, payments and an admin panel is ₹5–10 lakh ($5,500–10,500).

Is a gym booking app cheaper than a trainer marketplace?

Yes. A single gym or studio sits in the MVP range because it has no independent sellers: no trainer verification, commission, held earnings or payouts. Those money paths are the main step up to the marketplace range.

Does a fitness academy with certificates cost more?

It adds work in a different place: dated batches with a timetable, attendance per session, certificates issued with a grade and a public page to check them, as on Proton Fitness Academy. It can replace chat and diet plans in the scope rather than add to them.

Can trainers write one program and reuse it, and does that cost extra?

It is part of the program feature, not an extra. On Trainr a trainer writes a program once and each client enrols on their own start date; the server works out which day of the cycle they are on, and old cycles stay in their history.

What does a fitness app cost to run each month?

Mostly card fees on what members buy, storage for check-in photos and videos, and the servers behind chat and scheduled jobs, plus a maintenance plan if you want one. The price list for maintenance is on app maintenance plans.

Do UAE fitness businesses pay a different price?

No. A UAE client is quoted and invoiced in US dollars at ₹95 = $1, so a fitness MVP is $5,500–10,500; the dirham figure is for reference. Trainr's customers pay in dirhams through Stripe. See working with us from the UAE.
