How is Stripe's fee calculated?

Stripe's standard fee for an online card payment is a percentage of the amount, plus a fixed amount in the US, the UK and the UAE. Both depend on your Stripe account's country and on where the card was issued: 2.9% + $0.30 for a domestic card in the US, 1.5% + £0.20 for a domestic card in the UK, 2.9% + AED 1.00 for a domestic card in the UAE and 2% for a domestic card in India.

In the US and the UAE, a card issued abroad adds percentage points to the domestic rate (+1.5% and +1%), and in the US a card number typed in by hand adds 0.5%. In the UK and India, international cards have their own full rates instead, such as 3.15% + £0.20 in the UK and 3% in India. Currency conversion adds 1% in the US, 2% in the UK, 1% in the UAE and 2% in India.

To net a set amount, add the fixed fee to the amount you want and divide by 1 − the percentage, then round up to the cent, penny, fils or paisa. The calculator checks that amount forward and gives the smallest one that leaves you at least your target.

Stripe's India pricing page shows a "Request an invite" button instead of an open sign-up. Its 2% domestic rate has no fixed fee, and the page also says: "Domestic debit card transactions have the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) of 0.4% capped to ₹200." It doesn't say how that combines with the 2% rate, so this calculator uses 2% for every Indian Mastercard and Visa card.

fee = amount × percentage + fixed fee (rounded to the minor unit)
you receive = amount − fee
amount to charge = (target + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − percentage), rounded up

Platforms that let Stripe bill connected accounts directly pay neither fee.
