AI app development: vision, extraction and AI writing in real products

We add AI to apps where it does a measurable job, and we measure it. LeafRanger identifies plants and diagnoses leaf health from a photo for about $0.004 a scan. BogarInfra's admin reads visiting cards after we tested four models on a 29-image test set. AskForth builds forms from a prompt, and AlwaysLoud writes content that has to pass a check against what the customer has already published.

What makes AI features hard, and how we handled it

Pick the model with data, not hype

For BogarInfra's visiting-card scanner we ran four models on the same 29 test images (real and template cards, plus two that were not cards) and compared accuracy and cost. A mid-size model turned 21 of 29 into a usable contact at $0.00139 a card, so it shipped.

Know the cost of every AI call

LeafRanger records token use and cost for each call; the admin console shows AI spend over 30 days. A plant scan costs about $0.004, and each plan tier has its own daily cap on scans and chat.

The model phrases, the code owns the facts

In BogarInfra's scanner the model only transcribes and the card text is treated as untrusted data. AlwaysLoud checks every generated sentence about a customer's business against material they have already published or confirmed.

AI inside an existing product

The card scanner was added to BogarInfra's live admin panel: a PIN-protected link per director, de-duplicated contacts, and one click to turn a card into an enquiry.

AskForth — AI Form Builder SaaS

AskForth is CountryDevs' own form SaaS. People build a form by describing it to an AI, by drag-and-drop, by mixing both or from a template, and all four produce the same JSON. Forms run as hosted links or CSP-safe embeds, with 24 industry packs on top. Built, not yet launched.

AI App Development: questions we get asked

Which AI model should my app use?

The one that wins a test on data like yours. For BogarInfra we ran four models on a 29-image test set of visiting cards and shipped a mid-size one over three cheaper models: it turned 21 of them into a usable contact at $0.00139 a card.

How do you keep AI costs predictable?

We record the cost of every call and cap usage per plan. LeafRanger shows 30-day AI spend in its admin console, a scan costs about $0.004, and each subscription tier has its own daily scan and chat limits.

Can you add AI features to an app that's already live?

Yes. BogarInfra's visiting-card scanner was added to the company's existing admin panel: directors scan cards from a private link and turn them into enquiries without retyping.
