Marketplace app development: two-sided apps with bookings, wallets and payouts

We design and build two-sided marketplace apps: the customer app, the provider app, the admin console, and the money that moves between them. Our marketplaces take real payments. Trainr, a Dubai fitness marketplace on Google Play, charges clients through Stripe and pays trainers out; Pakka's drivers top up prepaid plans and withdraw through RazorpayX; LeafRanger runs a multi-vendor plant shop with orders and disputes.

  • Founders launching a services or rentals marketplace
  • Businesses adding a provider side (trainers, drivers, vendors) to an existing product
  • Teams replacing a marketplace that a previous vendor left half-built

What makes marketplace apps hard, and how we handled it

Two apps and an admin that never disagree

A booking changes state in the customer app, the provider app and the admin console at once. On Trainr we kept chat and bookings consistent across MongoDB, Redis and Socket.IO, across 199 screens and 978 API endpoints over two backends.

Money that reconciles to the rupee or dirham

Marketplaces fail quietly on money. Trainr reconciles its subscription ledger with a dedicated job; Pakka keeps a ledger with cash-on-delivery reconciliation and admin-approved driver payouts.

Matching by distance, not by list order

Trainr sorts trainers by distance to the client, measured to the trainer or to the nearest place they train, within a 5 to 50 km radius. Pakka offers each trip to drivers with a countdown and models its cities as H3 hexagon zones.

Trust and safety from day one

Reviews across a provider's offerings, user blocking, moderation, disputes, and the account-deletion flow both app stores require are part of the build, not a later phase.

Trainr — Two-Sided Fitness Marketplace App

Trainr is a two-sided fitness marketplace for the UAE. We built the React Native app for clients and trainers, two Node.js backends and the admin console: bookings, packages, Stripe payments and payouts, workouts, diet plans, check-ins and chat. The Android app is live on Google Play.

Marketplace App Development: questions we get asked

Do you build the customer app and the provider app separately?

Either way, depending on the users. Pakka has two separate Android apps, one for customers and one for drivers, because their days look nothing alike. Trainr uses one app with a role choice at signup, because trainers and clients share chat, programs and bookings.

Which payment gateways have you used in marketplace apps?

Stripe for Trainr's card payments and refunds in the UAE, with a ledger for what each trainer has earned. Razorpay for Pakka's customer payments in India, with a RazorpayX flow built for driver withdrawals. Razorpay for LeafRanger's multi-vendor plant shop.

Who owns the marketplace code when the project ends?

You do. On Trainr we pushed every repository to the client's own GitHub organisation and handed the build over to their incoming developer with a written handover record.

How long does a marketplace app take to build?

It depends on scope. Pakka's web platform, with bulk bookings, a business portal and a SuperAdmin console, went live 15 weeks after its first commit. Trainr's full platform, with chat, workout and diet programs, check-ins and payouts, was built over 13 months and handed over at 15.
