Petym — Pet-Care and Pet-Travel Reference Site for India

Petym is an SEO-led pet-care and pet-travel reference site for India. We built the public site — city guides, train and airline rules, care guides and browser-only health tools — as the first layer of a pet-stay host marketplace. It runs locally; it is not deployed yet and has no users.

Overview

Petym starts from a simple plan: pet owners in India who travel or move need someone to look after their pet overnight or for a few days, and before they book they need answers. Free, sourced reference pages bring the traffic; pet stays with checked hosts are the revenue, opened city by city only where real hosts exist.

We built the reference layer first. The public site covers pet travel by train, by air across five domestic airlines, abroad and by road; care guides such as vaccinations before boarding, ticks, monsoon care and heatstroke; a glossary; comparison pages; and four tools that run entirely in the browser. City hubs for eight cities give sourced quick answers on the local dog licence, 24-hour vets and the weather. Every content page carries a waitlist, backed by a small Express and MongoDB API.

The site is complete enough to browse end to end on a local server and passes its own SEO audit, but it is not deployed. There are no users, no hosts and no bookings yet; the host marketplace is planned, and the pages that describe it are recruitment and explanation, not a working booking flow.

The challenge

Pet travel and pet care in India are rule-heavy and badly documented. Railway and airline rules differ, municipal pet licences vary by city, and health advice online often conflicts. A marketplace for pet stays also has a cold-start problem: a booking page for a city with no hosts is an empty page, which helps no one and hurts search rankings.

The site therefore had to earn trust before it earned money. That meant facts with sources on every page, health advice that holds up, and a structure that can grow into many cities without ever publishing a thin or duplicate page.

The solution

We built Petym as a Next.js site that renders full content in the HTML, with an SEO engine underneath: a page registry, metadata length budgets, JSON-LD builders, a sitemap index, robots rules, llms.txt, per-page social cards and a self-testing audit that checks every page. Cities are gated. A city hub is built only when all five of its resources — pet licence, 24-hour vets, climate care, festival peaks and travel from the city — are researched and sourced; eight of fourteen launch cities passed, and the other six wait. A hub switches from guide mode to booking mode only once the city has at least ten verified hosts.

Health content got a stricter rule: every health fact on the public pages is checked against two further independent sources, recorded in a ledger with a verdict, and the page is corrected where the sources disagree. The tools — a puppy vaccination planner, a vaccine due-date checker, a medication sheet and a dog age calculator — compute everything in the browser and send nothing to a server.

The impact

What exists is a complete public site running locally: 74 pages passing the site's own SEO audit with no failures or warnings, eight city hubs with eight emergency-vet pages, the travel, care, glossary, compare and tool pages, the landing pages, and privacy and terms pages with a deletion channel for waitlist data. The health check produced 318 ledger rows across six research files, and every verdict was applied to the pages.

The site is not deployed, so there is no traffic, no waitlist sign-ups and no hosts to report. Host onboarding and bookings are the next phase and have not been started.

Features

What we built into Petym

Pet travel by train and air

A train guide with an Indian Railways rules-at-a-glance table, and a comparison of five domestic airlines on cabin and hold carriage, weight limits, fees and snub-nosed breed rules, each row linked to the source.

City hubs with sourced quick answers

Eight city hubs open with a dated, sourced answer on the local dog licence, 24-hour vets and the hottest, wettest and coolest months, plus an emergency-vets page per city.

Browser-only pet tools

A puppy vaccination planner, a vaccine due-date checker, a medication sheet and a dog age calculator, all computed in the browser with nothing sent to a server.

Health facts checked three ways

Each health claim is checked against two further independent sources and logged as agreeing, differing, contradicted or under-sourced before the page is signed off.

Care guides, glossary and comparisons

Care guides including vaccines before boarding, ticks, monsoon care and senior pets; a glossary of the terms owners meet in paperwork and vet visits; and comparison pages such as pet sitter versus boarding.

Gated city growth

A city page is published only when all five of its resources are sourced, and switches to bookings only once it has at least ten verified hosts, so the site never ships an empty city.

An SEO engine with its own audit

Page registry, metadata budgets, JSON-LD, sitemap index, robots, llms.txt and per-page social cards, with an audit script that runs over the production build and lists every failing page.

Host recruitment groundwork

How-it-works and become-a-host pages set out the stay model and what a host needs before listing: PAN, a video walk-through, society permission, pet first aid, a named 24-hour vet and a pet limit.

A waitlist on every content page

A small Express and MongoDB API takes waitlist sign-ups by city, with a privacy policy and a deletion channel built before launch.

FAQ

Questions about this project

How does Petym check the health advice on its pet pages?

Every health fact is checked against two further independent sources and logged with a verdict: agree, numbers differ, contradicted, or too few sources. The first pass produced 318 ledger rows, and the pages were corrected before sign-off.

Why does Petym open pet stays one city at a time?

A booking page for a city with no hosts is an empty page. Petym's city hubs start in guide mode, published only when the city's five resources are sourced, and switch to bookings only once that city has at least ten verified hosts.

Do Petym's pet tools send my pet's details anywhere?

No. The puppy vaccination planner, vaccine due-date checker, medication sheet and dog age calculator compute everything in the browser, and each tool says on the page that nothing entered leaves it.
