App maintenance cost calculator

This calculator estimates how many engineering hours a live app needs each month for security updates, fixes and small changes, from what it runs on and how often it changes, then prices those hours at our published plan rates. The hours model is ours; every assumption is listed under the result so you can check it.

  • Over a year that is about ₹5,40,000 of engineering time. Hosting, app store fees and API bills are separate: they are paid to the providers.
  • The plans cover Indian working hours with no 24/7 on-call cover. Unused hours don't roll over.

App Maintenance Plans: from ₹20,000 / $350 a month

This estimate fits the Grow plan. The first month starts with a health check that replaces these planning numbers with real ones.

How does the calculator estimate maintenance hours?

It adds up line items that every live app needs. Two hours a month cover the health checks: monitoring alerts, backups and a dependency and security audit. Each part of the product then adds its own upkeep: an hour for a web app, half an hour for an admin panel, two hours for iOS and Android from one codebase, three and a half for two separate native apps.

Every third-party service the app calls adds a quarter of an hour, because providers retire API versions, rotate keys and change webhooks. Then comes the part you choose: how much new work you want each month, from none to a steady feature roadmap.

The total is matched to the smallest of our plans that covers it: Care (4 h, ₹20,000 or $350 a month), Grow (12 h, ₹45,000 or $900 a month), Partner (30 h, ₹95,000 or $2,000 a month). Hours beyond the Partner plan are priced at ₹3,000 or $60 each. This is our planning model for scoping a plan, not an average measured across the industry.

hours = 2 (health checks) + platform upkeep + 0.25 × services + monthly change work
plan = smallest plan with hours ≥ estimate; extra hours = estimate − plan hours

How to estimate your app's maintenance cost

  1. 1
Tick what you runChoose the web app, an admin panel, and how your mobile apps are built, if you have them.
  2. 2
Count the outside servicesAdd every third-party service the app calls: payments, maps, SMS, email, push notifications, AI APIs.
  3. 3
Say how much should changePick from keeping it running with no changes up to a steady feature roadmap.
  4. 4
Read the hours and the planThe result lists every line item, the total hours, and the plan and monthly price that cover them, in rupees or dollars.

Frequently asked questions

How much does app maintenance cost per month in India?
On our plans, from ₹20,000 a month for 4 hours of updates and fixes up to ₹95,000 for 30 hours. What you need depends mostly on how many platforms you run and how much you want to change each month.
Why does an app need maintenance if nothing is broken?
Because everything around it keeps moving: iOS and Android ship a major release every year, app stores raise their requirements, libraries publish security fixes and providers retire old API versions. An app left alone stops building, then stops passing store review.
Do two native apps cost more to maintain than one cross-platform app?
Usually, yes. Separate Swift and Kotlin apps are two codebases to update and test, so this model gives them 3.5 hours a month against 2 hours for one React Native or Flutter codebase covering both stores.
Are hosting and API bills part of app maintenance?
Not in this estimate. Hosting, app store memberships and API usage are paid to those providers; maintenance hours are the engineering time spent keeping the app current, secure and improving.
What happens in the first month of a maintenance plan?
A health check: we set up monitoring, review the code and its dependencies, and list what is out of date. That replaces this calculator's planning numbers with measured ones for your app.
