App store review
The check Apple and Google run on every app release against their policies, which can delay or block a launch over permissions, payments or missing details.

What does app store review mean in practice?
Before an app reaches users, the store reviews it: what it asks permission for, how it takes payment, whether it explains its data use, whether reviewers can sign in and whether it crashes. Google Play and Apple each have their own rules, and every rejection costs days.
Plan for review from the first sprint, not the last week. Some rules shape the product itself, such as which purchases must go through store billing or how photo access is requested, and changing those late means rework.
A cheap rehearsal is to test the app the way reviewers do: on a clean device, with a demo account, killing the app mid-flow and using it with no network.

Where has app store review come up in our builds?
In the pre-Play QA pass on 14–15 October 2026, two of the 28 defects would have blocked release. One was asking for access to all photos for one-off picks, which Play's photo policy rejects; the apps now use the system photo picker. The Android apps are not yet listed on Google Play.
iOS uploads had failed since 25 May with a signing error. The App Store Connect API showed the app record had always been fit.trainr.mobile; we reverted the identifier, added six privacy purpose strings Apple required, and build 22 reached TestFlight.
We modelled AlwaysLoud's access to customers' apps on app-store review: the customer provides a demo account with made-up data and no two-factor prompt.
Common questions about app store review
How long should I allow for app store review?
Allow for at least one rejection in the plan, because a single round can cost days. The time you control is before submission: get permissions, privacy text and reviewer access right first.
Do app store reviewers need a login to my app?
If the main features sit behind sign-in, yes. Provide a demo account with made-up data that doesn't trigger two-factor prompts or captchas, and keep it working for every release.
